In British Columbia, and likely nation wide, our recycling programs are an abysmal failure. Recycling is gathered at the municipal level and because of the complexities of whether your plastic bag is a #2, #6, for something else, getting those bags to the right recycling plant is a logistics nightmare. So much of a nightmare that less than 9% ever gets recycled and most is either incinerated or shipped overseas to make it some other countries' problem. In this video, three BC waste management companies: Merlin Plastics, GFL, and Waste Connections, simply pickup and truck our recycling to either a landfill or burn it.
